While working on her assigned post, Westchester Correction Association President Brooke Jones said that a female officer was punched in the mouth by an inmate on Wednesday, Jan. 17, causing her to fall backward and strike her head, sending her to the Westchester Medical Center Emergency Room for treatments to a head wound.

The condition of the correction officer was not immediately available on Thursday afternoon.

“As correction officers, we understand the dangers when taking the job, however we should not be moving targets for the same problematic inmates,” Jones added. “Although numerous complaints are made to administration, they refuse to listen or make sound changes to prevent or minimize ongoing and future assaults.”
